Annual Fund Drive 2024

Dear Library Patron,

As we embark upon our 21st Annual Fund Drive, I once again begin by thanking you for your continued support of our Burton Public Library. I am happy to report that this past year we completed our window replacement project, replacing 42 of the building’s windows. This was a major undertaking and Annual Fund contributions helped make this project possible.

This year we are undertaking yet another major building project. The Library’s elevator was installed in the early 1980s and over the past few years has become increasingly problematic. At this point it often does not stop level with the floor and also regularly bounces a little after it stops. While these are not good indicators and pose safety concerns, this summer, the elevator was out of order for five days after it experienced a more serious malfunction. During our week without an elevator, we realized how integral it is to library operations. The Library’s meeting rooms are located on the second floor, and without a working elevator, those with disabilities, some elderly, and parents with children in strollers are precluded from participating in programs. Additionally, our deliveries had to be carried up the stairs while processed books had to be carried down. This was labor intensive and dangerous. In some instances it was not possible. Our goal is to fix the elevator before it stops working entirely, which would result in a long-term disruption of library services.

Despite the significant cost of overhauling the existing elevator, the Library is a resource for everyone in the community and, as such, needs to be accessible. Your generous donation to our 21st Annual Fund Drive will directly support the modernization of our aging elevator, ensuring that everyone can fully participate in the cultural and educational opportunities offered by our Library. Thank you for your consideration and support.

Sincerely,
Katie Ringenbach
Library Director
